Battery settings by phone brand
Some phone makers ship their own background killer on top of Android. It can stop a scheduled call from ringing, or freeze Self Call in the middle of a call. One setting prevents both. Find your brand below.
Why this matters. Usually a blocked app only means a scheduled call fails to ring. In rare cases the phone freezes Self Call mid-call: the call screen stays on with buttons that don't respond, and only restarting the phone clears it. The app cannot read these settings back, so please check them yourself after changing them.
Stock-like phones (Google Pixel, Motorola, Nokia, Sony, Fairphone and most others) need none of this. Scheduled calls ring from an exact system alarm without any battery exemption.
Huawei and Honor (EMUI, HarmonyOS, MagicOS)
Open Settings → Battery → App launch
Self Call can open the Battery screen for you from its setup step, the Permissions screen or Tips & fixes.
Find Self Call and switch it to Manage manually
Then enable all three: Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background.
Without this, the phone may stop the app regardless of the standard battery-optimization setting. This is also the setting that prevents the frozen-call problem on these phones.
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO (MIUI, HyperOS)
Open Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Self Call
Turn on Autostart
Set Battery saver to No restrictions
Lock Self Call in the Recents screen
Open Recents, press and hold the Self Call card and tap the lock icon, so clearing recent apps does not kill it.
vivo and iQOO (Funtouch OS, OriginOS)
Open i Manager → App manager → Autostart manager
Allow Self Call.
Open Settings → Battery → Background power consumption management
Allow Self Call.
Lock Self Call in the Recents screen
Pull its card down and tap the lock.
Samsung (One UI)
Open Settings → Battery → Background usage limits
Turn off Put unused apps to sleep
Add Self Call to Never sleeping apps
If it is listed under Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps, remove it from there.
Samsung also takes a moment to save the calling-account switch. If Self Call still reports the account as off right after you enabled it, wait a few seconds and reopen the app.
TECNO, Infinix and itel (HiOS, XOS)
Open Phone Master → Toolbox → Auto-start management
On some Infinix phones the app is called XManager. Allow Self Call.
Open Settings → Battery → Battery Lab → Battery saving settings
Turn off Power saving management for apps.
Lock Self Call in the Recents screen
Press and hold its card and tap the lock.
OPPO, realme and OnePlus (ColorOS, OxygenOS)
Open Settings → Battery → App battery management → Self Call
Turn on Allow auto-launch and Allow background activity
On newer versions set the app to Unrestricted.
Lock Self Call in the Recents screen
Press and hold its card and tap the lock.
Every phone: Alarms & reminders
Separate from the vendor settings above, Android 12 and newer need the Alarms & reminders permission for exact timing. Switch it on from the app's App permissions screen. Without it a scheduled call may ring several minutes late.
Still not ringing?
As a last resort, exclude Self Call from standard battery optimization: App permissions → Battery optimization exemption in the app, then choose Don't optimize (also worded "Allow" or "Unrestricted") for Self Call. Then see troubleshooting, and if it still fails, use Report bug in the app menu: it includes your phone model, which makes these issues much easier to track down.
